Bio/chemical analysis of dioxin-like compounds in sediment samples from Osaka Bay, Japan.

The combinatorial bio/chemical investigation of sediments (six surface samples and one core sample) from Osaka Bay, Japan was conducted to clarify the horizontal and vertical distribution profiles of persistent organic pollutants in the sediments. Concentrations of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated dibenzo-p-dioxins a...

Chemical Contaminants and Toxicity of Ganga River Sediment from Up and Down Stream Area at Kanpur

The objective of this study was the sediment quality assessment of Ganga River at Kanpur city where effluents from tannery industries are discharged. Sediment samples from upstream and downstream area were collected and analyzed for trace metals and toxicity bioassay. Among various trace metals examined Cr in downstream sediment was 30-fold higher than in upstream sediment and its concentration...

Identification of Ti- anomaly in stream sediment geochemistry using of stepwise factor analysis and multifractal model in Delijan district, Iran

In this study, 115 samples taken from the stream sediments were analyzed for concentrations of As, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, W, Zn, Au, Ba, Fe, Mn, Sr, Ti, U, V and Zr. In order to outline mineralization-derived stream sediments, various mapping techniques including fuzzy factor score, geochemical halos and fractal model were used. Based on these models, concentrations of Co, Cr, Ni, Zn, Ba, Fe, Mn, ...

Stream Insects as Bioindicators of Fine Sediment

Fine inorganic sediment (≤ 2mm) is a major non-point source pollutant in streams. While some fine sediment in streams is natural, loads in human-impacted streams often exceed their capacity to flush these sediments during high flows. Regardless of the source, the negative effects of increased levels of fine sediment in streams are realized in all biotic components of stream ecosystems from micr...
